Our HO Model of the CNJ in Mauch Chunk >
Progress Projects Track Plan Articles The Modellers

Like nearly all models built in the UK, our HO model of Mauch Chunk, PA is built on portable baseboards. We have mounted these on trestles and this will make it easier to transport the model to about half a dozen Model Railway Exhibitions a year once completion draws near.   See the progress pages above for recent photos and activity.

There has been very little compression of the central part of the Track Plan and so the model should closely resemble the prototype. We are using card outlines to give an impression of the building locations and sizes as they will be on the final model. All buildings are being scratch built to resemble the prototypes as closely as possible.  Go to the Mauch Chunk Buildings page to access HO-scale plans of the buildings. Previous models that we have built can be seen under The Modellers page (left).

Rolling stock will initially be a compromise made up from what we already have, but we have now started a collection of representative locomotives and other stock that would have been operating in the 1930s to 1950s on the CNJ in Mauch Chunk, PA. We still run non-CNJ rolling stock on club evenings !

We’re building to the standard NMRA wheel profile and are using Peco code 75 track.   We will also use DCC for operation after the very positive experiences of other layouts in the Merseyside Model Railway Society

US modellers interested in modelling Mauch Chunk may be interested to know that the Anthracite Model Railroad Society at Hazleton, PA has a model of the area.  UK modellers are very welcome to join us at the Merseyside Model Railway Society clubrooms in Birkenhead, Merseyside.
